CBD MASSAGE: HELP? OR HYPE?

CBD MASSAGE: HELP? OR HYPE?

Should you upgrade your massage to a CBD massage?

It would be a complete surprise if you haven't heard about the miracle ingredient CBD.  CBD is popping up everywhere from being added to coffee, to tinctures, to chocolates and certainly in beauty products.  CBD products are flooding the market, and don’t seem to be easing up either.   The Spa world is busting at the seams with new creams, lotions, oils and relief crams.  CBD (cannabidiol) is the non-intoxicating component of the cannabis plant also known as hemp.  It is well know for its anti-inflammatory and pain relieving qualities among a long list of other benefits.

The act of massage is therapeutic for the mind and body and when you infuse CBD into the mix.  Is CBD Hype or does it help? Frankly, it can be soothing and therapeutic for both the Massage Therapist and client.

Massage seeking clients are looking for a way to relax and reduce stress.  They may be looking to accelerate the recovery or healing process of tension, injured connective tissue or increase mobility and stretching or general soreness.

What role does CBD play in the massage?

First, let’s discuss the Endocannbinoid System.  The Endocannabinioid system also known as ECS.  ECS plays a vital role in regulating pain, mood, appetite, sleep, energy, immunity and cognitive function.  The ECS works with just about every cell and organ in the body to maintain balance (homeostasis).  Scientist are still researching and discovering new functions of this amazing system everyday.   Here’s how it works:  We have receptors found through out the skin. These receptors send signals and messages to our nervous system that adjust to any imbalance within the body.  This is why we hear so many stories that people have amazing stories when it comes to ingesting and applying CBD.   When a cream, oil, lotion or salve is massaged onto the skin, and those receptors notice an imbalance CBD will help to influence or soothe the area more so than a topical product that doesn’t include CBD. CBD helps a massage therapist to work more effectively with infused products which tends to render a result of rejuvenating, soothing and relaxing massage experience.

Will my massage therapist or I get high from this treatment?

No! CBD is the non-intoxicating compound of the cannabis plant. In a Whole Plant Extract (containing all the cannabinoids) and low levels of THC (intoxicating compound), there is no high.  As a matter of fact, subjects that use THC and feel too high will very often use CBD to counter act it’s cousin’s intoxicating effect.

Yes, try a CBD message

In my opinion, CBD for massage is not hype.  Yes, yes, yes please try a CBD Massage.  CBD massages are just the first of many therapies being used to improve health and well being.   What should you expect after the massage.  Well, that’s a bit subjective.  Many CBD Massage clients will describe a spectrum from very transformative to extremely relaxed.  I have experienced both types of massages.  In both massages, I used Clean Coconut Massage Lotion (to target tough spots) and Clean Coconut Massage Oil for the overall massage.

Does CBD Massage Cost More?

Generally, yes.  Many massage spas offer the service of CBD massage as an add on charge.  Some spas will allow you to bring your own product in.  You should call and ask before you arrive to your appointment.

What else should I know before I buy a CBD topical (cream, lotion, salve)?

Not all CBD products are created equal.  Look for companies that have Certificate of Analysis (COAs) or Lab Reports on their websites.  Some companies like Clean Coconut Skincare & Wellness have QR codes directing you to the lab reports.  Also, be aware that more CBD isn't always better. If you're looking to get a massage and you see one product with 500 milligrams of CBD and another product with 100 milligrams, it doesn't necessarily mean it's more potent. It's going to be based on the genetics of the - hemp from which it was grown, extracted and stored.  This is why lab reports are so imperative.  As well as, some of CBD companies just don’t have customers interest in focus.

It’s pretty impractical to expect consumers to test products off the shelf.  But what it does mean is that it takes a bit of research to find the right product for you.  It may require you to  try out various products before you identify the best one for your body. It's not much different then trying out lotions or creams.  Sometimes you use the lotion and sit's a great product, and sometimes it's not.  The difference is CBD products are not inexpensive.  Identifying websites or brands that have tested and trusted products is the best way to reputable products.

Finally, make yourself a priority.  Take care of your body.  Go get a CBD massage and relax, refresh and recharge.  You deserve it.

As you continue your journey using CBD (cannabis products), I hope you will to begin research the other health benefits cannabis and/or CBD may have to offer.
